The EU India summit is set for the middle of October. While important issues such as trade policy, climate and energy issues and cooperation in the field of science and energy are on the agenda, human rights issues seem to have been overlooked.
When and where does the Council plan on holding the India-EU human rights dialogue? If no date has been set, will the Council commit to making this a priority?

The seventh EU India Summit was held in Helsinki on Friday 13 October 2006.
Human rights issues were addressed at various points during the Summit meeting. This is reflected in the joint statement (paragraph 7), which indicates: ‘Both the EU and India are committed to upholding human rights and fundamental freedoms. The two sides will continue, in a spirit of equality and mutual respect, the dialogue on human rights both in a multilateral and bilateral context.’
This human rights dialogue is conducted in the context of the UN Human Rights Council, as well as through regular bilateral dialogue. The previous round of the bilateral human rights dialogue was held on 1 December 2005 in New Delhi and the last one took place on 30 November 2006, also in New Delhi.
