Welcome to my home page

“One should use ordinary words to say extraordinary things”, was the advice from philosopher Schopenhauer. Many people, and politicians especially, do just the opposite – and probably without even noticing it. European politics is an abyss of incomprehensible words and abbreviations, into which one could easily fall and become similarly incomprehensible for the audience. With these pages, I try to use ordinary language to describe what it is that we do in the EU. When you give feedback and join us in this work, our combined efforts will ensure our combined success. .

MEP work takes place in the European Institutions as well as in the Members’ home countries. I travel on a weekly basis between the offices in Helsinki and the European Parliament in Brussels where the majority of the work is carried out in Committees and Political Groups. Plus, the Parliamentary plenary sessions takes place 12 times per year in Strasbourg.

I am Vice-Chairwoman Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection and a substitute member of the Committee on Industry Research and Energy. On this page you can get to know my work better and the topic areas that are emphazised in my work. In short, those are the three main themes: Human rights, Climate and the Baltic Sea.
